This concept utilizes a total footprint of approximately 12,500 SF per floor (for a building total of 27,000 SF) wrapped around a courtyard on three sides. Interior circulation is oriented toward the courtyard to promote visual connections, which promote greater security and social interaction by concentrating activity in and around that space.
The center piece of the project contains the public, community and administrative spaces, while the wings contain the various educational programs. Concentrating related courses in a wing or by level lends identity to those programs and students, while providing social spaces in common areas encourages the sharing of ideas and concepts. The design is expandable, either through physical connections to the building or building in close proximity and further developing a campus feel. The building may be situated on sloping topography, which would allow for basement spaces to house mechanical equipment, storage, maintenance facilities, etc.
