Original wood floors, exposed brick and heavy timber beams are coupled with unique forms and industrial details to create a fresh environment which allows experimentation, promotes collaboration, and implements our sustainable design philosophy. A simple diagram of central corridor flanked by workspaces oriented to the windows at the south define the design parti. A full, below-grade floor of library, resource and maker space complement open studio space, semi-private offices, and conference rooms. Large openings, glazed with a 27-foot-high curtain wall, allow additional natural light, and are enabled through supplemental steel reinforcement, which references original detailing on the east fašade.
Sustainable design techniques were prioritized throughout the renovation. Recycled and renewable products are used throughout and waste removed from the site was minimized. The selection of interior finishes were scrutinized for VOC content and regional availability and mechanical/electrical systems are designed for efficiency with maximum flexibility for occupant comfort.
